A large shadow is cast upon a glimmering river, that dances along the shore, of the walled city of San Giuseppe Cupertino. As the clouds part and rays of sunshine pass down upon the land, the fate of the city is uncertain. For a ginormous, hulking, beast looms just outside its fortifications. But maybe the cities fate wont be met with death and destruction? Provided, of course, that their crops have yielded a great deal of carrots this season…

“The Colossus of San Giuseppe Cupertino” provides a small window into a fantastical and ironic scene. Described as the “colossus”, an oversized rabbits sits outside the walls of a medieval city, the fictional Italian city of San Giuseppe Cupertino. The two are separated by a winding river, yet brought together by the surrounding mountain range. The rabbit finds itself clearly out of place. Its ears stand high on alert, its paws dug into the forest, and its gaze matching the viewers. The city itself is named for this feeling, the humor and uncertainty of being “out of place”. Saint Joseph of Cupertino (Giuseppe Cupertino) was an Italian friar described most notably as “remarkably unclever”. Many cited him as absent-minded, awkward, and nervous. The saint of unremarkably has been positioned in contrasted with a remarkable situation, a gigantic, awkward and nervous, rabbit. “The Colossus of San Giuseppe Cupertino” illustrates a humorous take on a common feeling and the irony behind such a strange and fantastical situation.
